These are two of the most popular extensions of Stand Up Paddleboarding in recent years and we are blessed in Barbados to be able to offer both!
Once you have mastered standing, paddling and turning the board, you might want to try Surfing on an SUP Board. Our sister company – Surf’ SUP Barbados was set up to help you with that.
We stock a few high performance SUP Surf boards for the advanced riders, but we welcome the beginners and intermediate Wave riders looking for the thrill of surfing with a paddle in hand on a big stable board.
These lessons are usually done one-on-one or in small groups of 4 or less. This allows me to focus on helping you catch as many waves as possible while you are out there.
Locations are based on the paddlers skill or experience, but most people are happy for nice small waves that they can catch and get the feeling of balancing the board while riding a wave!
Lessons start on the beach and include a refresher on paddle technique and water safety with some new stroke variations and turns thrown in. A brief lesson on Waves (for beginners), surf etiquette and safety is also included and I try to explain the specific break and where you should try to be in the line up.

Best Time: according to tides and specific location
Requirements: You must be in relatively good fitness or shape and be able to swim well. No previous Surfing experience is needed, but you must have completed at least one beginner SUP Lesson. Sunscreen and Rash Guard are highly recommended.
This is probably one of the fastest growing segments of the sport… SUP Yoga is essentially yoga on a Stand Up Padddleboard in the water. Since the SUP board is large enough to act as a mat (and sturdy enough to support someone standing on it) it was only a matter of time before yogis started to discover the ways it challenged their practice. And SUP Yoga is definitely challenging! (especially when it comes to balancing poses) but it’s a fun way to energize and transform your regularpractice. Adding the element of water simply increases the amount of core stability you need to achieve every pose.
This is a special class and taught by an instructor who understands how the boards can work with and against you. As such, classes are limited to 9 people and usually only once a week. Special group classes or private sessions are available on request.
Locations: Vary but somewhere with a calm or protected shoreline
Best Time: Early morning or late afternoon
Requirements: You must be able to swim, in relatively good shape and having a strong yoga practice helps. No previous SUP experience is needed, but a beginner SUP Lesson is recommended.
What to wear: We in Barbados Mon! – Bikini with board shorts or “boy shorts” for girls and board shorts for guys are recommended. Bring a Towel and change of clothes in case you fall in. I provide a cool bottle of water for after your class.
